Willian’s 85th-minute equaliser rescued a point for Chelsea at Anfield.
A couple of minutes after coming on as a substitute, Willian hauled the Blues level after former Chelsea man Mohamed Salah had put Liverpool ahead.
It was either an attempted cross or a sublime goal by the Brazilian, who lofted the ball over keeper Simon Mignolet and into the far corner of the net from near the right-hand edge of the penalty area.
Salah struck midway through the second half after Tiémoué Bakayoko attempted to intercept a pass by Philippe Coutinho near the edge of the area but was unable to get the ball under control.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was on hand to slide the loose ball through to Salah, who fired past keeper Thibaut Courtois from nine yards out.
Salah was unable to establish himself as a first-team player during his time at Chelsea but has been outstanding since joining Liverpool from Roma during the summer.
His goal was his 15th of the season for the Reds and his 10th for them in the Premier League.
The Blues were on the back foot for much of the opening 20 minutes but then enjoyed a spell of pressure, during which Mignolet produced saves to deny Eden Hazard, Danny Drinkwater and Davide Zappacosta.
Shortly before Salah’s goal, Alvaro Morata was unable to take a great chance when Zappacosta’s cross dropped to him in the box.
And after falling behind, Chelsea looked to be heading for defeat when Marcos Alonso wasted a chance to equalise when he blasted over from eight yards out.
But they continued to press and were rewarded with Willian’s first league goal of the season.
