Chelsea legend backs Di Matteo

Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola has backed Roberto Di Matteo to steady the ship at Stamford Bridge.

Placed in interim charge following the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas as manager, Di Matteo made a promising start by guiding the team through a tricky FA Cup replay at Birmingham on Tuesday.

And Zola, still a hero among Chelsea fans, believes his former team-mate can maintain that momentum.

“Roberto has got a big opportunity and I personally believe he’s got the qualities to do a good job,” Zola told the Press Association.

“I really hope that he’s going to do well. He’s a Chelsea boy as well, he’s a Chelsea hero, and so he’s well represented.”
