Chelsea have responded to speculation over Jose Mourinho’s future, stating that the manager has the club’s “full support”.
Following the Blues’ defeat by Southampton on Saturday, Mourinho insisted he would not resign and challenged owner Roman Abramovich to back him.
The club have responded by issuing a statement insisting the Portuguese has the full backing of the board.
It said: “The club wants to make it clear that Jose continues to have our full support.
“As Jose has said himself, results have not been good enough and the team’s performances must improve.
“However, we believe that we have the right manager to turn this season around and that he has the squad with which to do it.”
Chelsea are 16th in the Premier League, 10 points behind leaders Manchester City after just eight games, and were also beaten in the Champions League at Porto last week.
