Blues draw with PSG in New York friendly

Chelsea 1 Paris St-Germain 1

Young striker Lucas Piazon scored a late equaliser to secure a draw for Chelsea in their pre-season friendly at New York’s Yankee Stadium.

They were trailing to a goal from winger Nene when Ramires cut the ball back from the right for Piazon to score with eight minutes remaining.

Paris St-Germain, managed by former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti and with ex-Blues defender Alex in their starting line-up, looked the better side for most of the first half.

The French team’s new signing Ezequiel Lavezzi was denied by a fine early save from Petr Cech, while Eden Hazard went close for Chelsea with a long-range effort.

Just as Roberto Di Matteo’s men seemed to be easing their way into the game, they fell behind on the half-hour mark when Nene netted from the rebound after Javier Pastore’s shot had hit the post.

Chelsea skipper John Terry was introduced along with a host of other second-half substitutes.

So too was recent arrival Marko Marin, whose performance was a definite positive for Di Matteo.

The Germany international, who scored against Seattle Sounders last week, looked impressive again.

After Piazon’s goal Chelsea finished the game strongly and almost went ahead when Florent Malouda’s shot was well saved by keeper Alphonse Areola.
