Hiddink pleased after Chelsea’s draw at United

Guus Hiddink felt Chelsea performed as well as could be expected against Manchester United given their lack of attacking options.

With Diego Costa suspended and both Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao unavailable, Blues boss Hiddink played without a recognised striker at Old Trafford, with Eden Hazard deployed in the central attacking role.

“Tactically it was okay and defensively we were well organised,” Hiddink said after the 0-0 draw.

“We didn’t have the full power to hurt Man U. As everyone knows, we have had some problems in the striker position due to suspension and injuries, so we had to think how to solve that problem.

“Hazard has done it before and he is capable of doing it because he’s a very versatile player. I’m pleased because we had some good opportunities in the second half.”

The result means the Premier League champions finish 2015 in 14th place, having drawn both their matches since Hiddink took charge following the recent sacking of Jose Mourinho.

“The players have experienced a very bad half-year. They have to lift it up and that’s what we have talked about,” the Dutchman added added.
