Zappacosta suffers serious knee injury

Davide Zappacosta has suffered a serious knee injury in training and faces a long spell on the sidelines. 

The defender, who is on loan at Roma from Chelsea, sustained cruciate ligament damage on Friday morning in what the Italian club have described as a “non-contact incident”.

Zappacosta, 27, moved on a six-month loan during the summer with a view to extending the deal until the end of the season.

He extended his contract with Chelsea until 2021 before making the move.

Zappacosta came on as a substitute in Roma’s Europa League game against Austrian side Wolfsberger AC on Thursday evening.
