Chelsea defender Gilchrist set to join Sheffield United on loan

Chelsea defender Alfie Gilchrist is set to join Sheffield United on a season-long loan.

The 20-year-old was not included in the squad for Chelsea’s pre-season trip to the United States as he was being lined up for a loan move.

Gilchrist, who can play as a central defender or at right-back, made 17 first-team appearances for Chelsea last season.

The club are keen for him to pick up more experience and a number of clubs have expressed an interest in him.
