Azpilicueta to be assessed ahead of Southampton game

Cesar Azpilicueta is an injury doubt for Chelsea’s Boxing Day game against Southampton.

Azpilicueta picked up a knock towards the end of the win at Tottenham and will be assessed ahead of the Saints’ visit to Stamford Bridge.

Reece James, who came on as a substitute for the Spaniard against Spurs, is standing by to start in his place.

Boss Frank Lampard said: “Azpilicueta had a small issue at the end of the game, hence he came off – he never comes off, so we need to check that one.

“Other than that…there are some bumps and bruises, nothing clear but we’ll see.”
