Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Senegal international Papy Djilobodji from Nantes.
The Blues have paid £4m for the 26-year-old defender and decided to bring him in after Everton refused to sell England centre-back John Stones.
Djilobodji, who has signed a four-year contract at Stamford Bridge, made more than 160 appearances for Nantes after joining the French club in 2010.
“I’m very happy to sign for a big club like Chelsea and I want to do my best to help the team win titles. I want to thank the club for giving me this opportunity,” he told the club’s website.
Boss Jose Mourinho has been keen to add to his defensive options following a disappointing start to the season by the champions.
Chelsea have conceded nine goals in their first four league games and are eight points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City.
Meanwhile, Victor Moses has signed new deal at Chelsea and joined West Ham on a season-long loan.
