Chelsea boss confirms Pereira bid

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed the club have tabled a bid for Porto’s Uruguay defender Alvaro Pereira.

But Porto look set to reject the offer for Pereira, 25, who played under Villas-Boas at the Portuguese club.

Pereira can play as a left-back, wing-back or in midfield, and featured in Uruguay’s run to the semi-finals of last year’s World Cup. He also impressed in the recent Copa America.

His arrival at Stamford Bridge would potentially give Ashley Cole serious competition for his place in the Blues side.
