Chelsea boss will not rush Lukaku decision
Roberto Di Matteo wants to see more of striker Romelu Lukaku in action for Chelsea before deciding whether to let him leave on loan.
Fulham and Stoke City are among those to have expressed an interest in the young Belgian, who scored twice in his team’s 4-2 victory over Seattle Sounders on Wednesday.
And Blues boss Di Matteo has suggested that he will make a decision on Lukaku’s futue after the club’s pre-season visit to the United States.
The Italian revealed: “We’ve had a talk at the start of pre-season and I’m very keen to see him perform for us. Then we will see what’s going to happen.
“He is a danger and scores goals. That’s what a striker has to do in the team and it was interesting seeing him perform for the team.
“We still have Fernando Torres and Daniel Sturridge to come back, so have options and we can’t forget he [Lukaku] is a young boy. But I have been pleased and he is an interesting player for us.”
There were also goals for new signings Eden Hazard and Marko Marin, who impressed during a lively first half.
Both players are also expected to be involved in Sunday’s friendly against Paris St Germain in New York.
“It’s good for them [to score] in their first game for their new club,” said Di Matteo.
“We got out of it what we were looking for. We were looking for a good workout and we didn’t get any injuries, so it’s so far so good.”
