Chelsea boss warns against complacency
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has warned his side there will be no room for complacency when they face Maribor in the Champions League on Wednesday.
The Blues will head to Slovenia as overwhelming favourites as Group G leaders already firmly on course for the knockout phase, and having recently demolished Maribor 6-0 at Stamford Bridge.
But Mourinho will remind his players that their opponents were unbeaten in the competition prior to that thrashing, having progressed through the qualifiers and then drawn with both Sporting Lisbon and Schalke.
“I have to focus and make the players focus on their [Maribor’s] other two matches – 1-1 against Sporting and against Schalke,” he said.
“I have to make them understand that we won 6-0 because we played very well, because we destroyed them in the first half, because we gave them no chance. We gave them no chance because of our very strong attitude.
“We have seven points and seven points is not enough. We have to get maybe 12 points to win the group and maybe 10 to qualify.”
Mourinho has said he believes Diego Costa, who missed four matches prior to Saturday’s win against QPR, will be in the squad for the trip.
But the Spain striker, who has had an ongoing hamstring complaint, could be rested ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Liverpool.
