Rudiger in line for Chelsea recall
Frank Lampard has confirmed he has held talks with Antonio Rudiger and that the defender is set for a recall to the Chelsea side.
Rudiger has been overlooked by boss Lampard this season and was available for a loan move during the recent transfer window.
He ended up staying at Stamford Bridge amid doubts over his long-term future.
The recent arrival of Thiago Silva has nudged Rudiger down the pecking order of centre-backs.
But Lampard said reports he has held fruitful discussions with Rudiger are correct.
He explained: “I’ve had discussions with Antonio. I’ve always had a positive relationship with him.
“Sometimes you have to have players out of the squad. But we have a very positive relationship and he’s in the squad and very much in contention to play.”
Rudiger is expected to feature in Wednesday’s Champions League game against Krasnodar.
Silva did not travel to south Russia. Neither did Kepa Arrizabalaga.
