January deals will not be easy – Conte

Antonio Conte has reiterated that Chelsea will not find it easy to strengthen their squad during the January transfer window.

The club has plenty to spend as a result of Oscar’s big-money move from Stamford Bridge and Conte is keen to bring in players.

However, the Blues boss has warned that getting his targets is unlikely to be a straightforward task.

He explained: “In January it is always very difficult to buy because I think every team thinks to keep their best players and not to sell them.

“But, with the club, we are thinking of the best way to face the rest of the season.

Oscar’s sale has given Chelsea a transfer windfall

“We are seeing our situation, our squad, and then we will take the best decision. But as I said before, the window in January is not easy.

“We sold Oscar and we have money to spend, but it is important to spend money in the right way.

“To spend money just to spend money; I don’t like this. I prefer to buy players who can adapt to our system and come into our team.

“But, I repeat, it is not easy in January to find this type of player. But we are working in this aspect.”

Chelsea’s current squad has soared to the top of the table with 12 consecutive Premier League wins.

But Conte has dismissed suggestions that any new players might upset the balance of a winning side.

“No, I don’t think about this, because when you have a good group a new player can arrive and go into the group very easily, in a simple way,” said the Italian.

Meanwhile, Conte has shrugged off continued speculation linking Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois with a move to Real Madrid.
