Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho admitted he felt the need to make changes in the second half of the 3-1 win against Manchester United even after his team’s goals.
The visitors caused problems in the first half and rallied in the closing stages after Javier Hernandez pulled a goal back with 11 minutes remaining.
Mourinho sent John Mikel Obi on midway through the second period and introduced another defensive midfielder in recent signing Nemanja Matic for the final five minutes to avoid any danger of a United comeback.
“When they made it 3-1 my team tired,” Mourinho said.
“We are a team that runs a lot. We press high up the pitch and our attacking players have big distances to run.
“Man United were dangerous and we decided to control the game and get the three points I think we deserved.”
