Oscar’s lovely finish and Eden Hazard’s cool penalty gave Chelsea a 2-0 win against 10-man Inter Milan in Indianapolis.
It was an encouraging pre-season display by the Blues, with their attacking players showing plenty of flair and summer signing Marco van Ginkel impressing in midfield.
Jose Mourinho’s side, playing against his former club, made the perfect start to their opening Guinness International Champions Cup match.
They went ahead after only 11 minutes when Oscar beautifully curled home following good work by Victor Moses.
And they doubled their lead when Hazard tucked away the spot-kick after Moses had been fouled in the box.
Romelu Lukaku fired against the Inter post early in the second half, before Hugo Campagnaro was sent off for a rash challenge on Chelsea skipper John Terry after 58 minutes.
The Europa League winners then had chances to score a third, with Demba Ba shooting wide after being set up by Juan Mata and Fernando Torres seeing a late effort saved.
Chelsea are next in action on Sunday, when they will face AC Milan in New Jersey.
Chelsea: Cech (Schwarzer 45); Ivanovic (Azpilicueta 67), Cahill (Luiz 60), Terry, Cole (Bertrand 73); Ramires, Van Ginkel (Mikel 67); Moses (Essien 45), Oscar (Mata 45), Hazard (Torres 73); Lukaku (Ba 60).
