Chelsea have agreed a fee with Bolton for England defender Gary Cahill, it has been confirmed.
The two clubs recently began discussing deal for the 26-year-old, who has also been a target for Tottenham.
And, speaking ahead of his team’s match against Wolves, Bolton manager Owen Coyle confirmed that a bid – believed to be in the region of £7m – had been accepted.
“There has been a fee agreed between the clubs and we have now given Gary’s representatives permission to speak to Chelsea,” the Press Association quoted Coyle as saying.
Cahill, whose Bolton contract is due to expire this summer, joined Wanderers for £5m from Aston Villa in January 2008.
He made his England debut against Ghana in March 2011 and scored his first international goal in the 3-0 victory over Bulgaria.
Chelsea are thought to be keen to announce his signing on Sunday, but by Friday afternoon were still some way from agreeing personal terms with the player.
