Chelsea defender Gary Cahill described his side’s 2-2 draw with Brentford in the FA Cup as a “horrible” experience.
The Bees were 2-1 ahead against the European Champions until the 83rd minute after Harry Forrester’s penalty added to Marcello Trotta’s first-half goal.
Chelsea were made to squirm by the League One side despite Fernando Torres’ late equaliser – and now face a replay at Stamford Bridge.
Cahill said: “It was a horrible day and a horrible game. It wasn’t enjoyable.
“Everyone knew how important this game was but we were sloppy and off the pace and we had to grind out a result in the end.
“Credit to them – Brentford made it really difficult for us, put us under real pressure and made it difficult for us to play our passing game.
“We can’t always play amazing every game and we showed character. We had to dig in to force the replay back at Stamford Bridge.”
Cahill added: “The replay will be difficult because it will be like another cup final for them.
“But at home I hope we’ll have too much for them and can finish this tie off.”
