Chelsea have formally completed the signing of England defender Gary Cahill from Bolton.
The Blues agreed a fee – believed to be in the region of £7m – more than two weeks ago but his move to Stamford Bridge was delayed by wrangling over personal terms.
But his transfer was rubber-stamped on Monday and Cahill, 26, is expected to make his debut in this weekend’s game at Norwich.
He can also play for his new club in the FA Cup, having not featured in the third round for Bolton.
Chelsea hope Cahill can form a strong partnership with England skipper John Terry and help stamp out the defensive lapses that have plagued them this season.
They endured more anxious moments during Saturday’s home match against Sunderland but clung on for 1-0 victory that maintained their 100% start to 2012.
