Hughton unfazed by Stockdale speculation

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton says he is he hopeful David Stockdale will still be at the club next season.

The former Fulham goalkeeper’s contract expires this summer and reports have claimed that Chelsea are interested in signing him.

Stockdale is discussing a new deal with the Seagulls, having helped them win promotion to the Premier League.

And Hughton is hoping that the 31-year-old will commit his future to Albion.

Hughton said: “Certainly we hope so. He’s had a good season for us, is a good age and yes we hope he’s here next season.

“We very much want him to be here next season. It’s normal negotiations when it comes to players.

“The David Stockdale situation is no different to other situations that we’ve had.

“It’s always a process. It so happens that with David it’s an end-of-contract at the end of the season.

“We have these normal processes. It’s not something we’re not used to or haven’t experienced.”

Stockdale was linked with a move to Chelsea during the January transfer window, when a host of keepers were touted for moves to Stamford Bridge.

With back-up keeper Asmir Begovic expected to move on this summer, Stockdale has again been linked with a possible move to SW6.

“As regards speculation and any interest from other clubs, we can’t do anything about that. But I reiterate: it’s not something that we haven’t experienced before,” Hughton added.
