Roberto Di Matteo heaped praise on his players after their first-leg victory against Barcelona.
Didier Drogba’s goal means Chelsea will take a 1-0 lead into next week’s return leg at the Nou Camp, where they will be trying to upset the odds and reach the Champions League final.
“It’s a great result for us,” interim Blues boss Di Matteo told ITV.
“You know when you play against Barca you have got to do a lot of defending and they are going to have a lot of possession.
“You’ve got to try and limit their threat and then take your chances. We knew we would get chances.
“Didier Drogba scored a crucial goal but it was a collective performance by the whole team.
“This group of players has shown again the determination they have and the courage to play against the top team in the world and show their quality.”
But he warned: “It is still 50-50. We still have the second leg to play away from home and we know it’s going to be difficult.”
