Boost for Di Matteo but Malouda is ‘touch and go’ for final

Chelsea have been boosted by the return to full training of Gary Cahill and David Luiz, but Florent Malouda now looks a major doubt for this weekend’s Champions League final.

Defenders Cahill and Luiz have both been out with hamstring injuries amid speculation that they could be sidelined for the game against Bayern Munich.

But they now look on course to feature in Saturday’s encounter, which John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic will miss through suspension.

However, interim Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo has admitted that Malouda is struggling to recover from his hamstring problem in time for the match in Germany.

“We’ll assess Florent. It’s going to be touch and go for him for Saturday,” Di Matteo said.

The Italian has also played down the significance of the game taking place on Bayern’s home soil, suggesting that it could even work in Chelsea’s favour.

He said: “Maybe, because of the environment and the pitch, it could give them an advantage.

“But on the other side, they have that bit of extra pressure playing at home, so I’m not sure if it is or isn’t an advantage.”
