Benitez predicts more goals from Torres

Interim manager Rafael Benitez predicted more goals from Fernando Torres after the much maligned striker scored twice in Chelsea’s 6-1 thrashing of Nordsjaelland.

The Blues’ resounding victory was not enough to keep them in the Champions League, as Juventus’ win against Shakhtar Donetsk meant the holders bowed out.

But Chelsea’s commanding display – and their first win since Benitez’s controversial appointment – meant it was not all doom and gloom at Stamford Bridge.

And Benitez believes the end of Torres’ latest barren run justified his faith in him.

“The team played well and I said before that if the team plays well Torres will score goals,” said Benitez.

“Yesterday I was watching him in the training session and he was sharp with more confidence, and today he was fine and the rest of team was also helping because we were playing good football with intensity.

“Torres showed his desire and his quality. If we can play like that at this level he can score more goals.”
