Interim manager Rafael Benitez says he is hopeful Chelsea will buy when the transfer window opens next month.
The club has been linked with several high-profile players, with owner Roman Abramovich expected to once again make major funds available.
Technical director Michael Emenalo has been chasing a number of possible deals since before Roberto Di Matteo was controversially replaced by Benitez, who believes Chelsea need to strengthen.
“If we can do something in January it would be good,” said the Spaniard.
“I was talking with Michael and people at the club and they asked me for my ideas, but my job right now is just to improve the squad I have.
“It’s not my job to have [transfer] targets. I have ideas. The club has targets.”
