Batshuayi makes his debut as Chelsea win in Austria
Michy Batshuayi made his Chelsea debut as their pre-season campaign continued with a 3-0 win against RZ Pellets in Austria.
Belgian striker Batshuayi, recently signed from Marseille, came on as a second-half substitute at the Wothersee Stadium, where Bertrand Traore, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Nathaniel Chalobah scored for the Blues.
Traore, who started up front alongside Diego Costa, bundled in Willian’s low cross from the right five minutes before half-time.
Loftus-Cheek headed in Victor Moses’ right-wing corner five minutes from the end.
And Chalobah scored a fine goal in the final seconds when he belted home after picking the ball up near the edge of the penalty area and skilfully evading three challenges.
Earlier, as Chelsea dominated the first half, Moses fired against the post after being found by the typically lively Willian.
Moses then squared the ball for Traore, who shot over, and Papy Djilobodji’s header from Willian’s corner was saved before Chelsea eventually found the net.
Dario Baldauf spurned a chance to equalise in the second half when he failed to hit the target with a free header.
But Chelsea, with Oscar impressing in central midfield, were otherwise comfortable.
Batshuayi missed a chance to score after latching on to Willian’s clever pass and rounding the keeper only for his control to let him down.
He instead teed up Moses, whose shot was blocked on the line.
More goals arrived in the end, sealing Chelsea’s first win under new boss Antonio Conte.
