Chelsea’s youngsters were crowned champions after Lewis Baker’s 78th-minute winner gave them a 2-1 victory against Manchester United in the Under-21 Premier League final.
Tom Lawrence gave United an early lead at Old Trafford but Charly Musonda equalised with a fine strike midway through the first half and Chelsea created a number of openings before Baker netted his 12th league goal of the season.
Dermot Drummy’s side responded strongly to going behind and Musonda brought them level with a lovely finish after being found by Nathan Ake.
The visitors continued to press and John Swift shot narrowly wide before Baker missed a great chance eight minutes into the second half when he blasted over after combining nicely with Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
But Baker made no mistake when the next chance came his way. He collected the ball near the left-hand edge of the penalty area and fired into the far corner of the net.
Chelsea keeper Jamal Blackman produced a fine save in injury time to deny Tyler Blackett.
