Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has insisted that his club will not be tabling January bids for Luka Modric or Gary Cahill.
The Blues tried in vain to sign Modric from Tottenham during the last transfer window and were widely tipped to make another approach in the coming weeks.
They have also been linked with a move for Bolton’s England defender Cahill, who is wanted by Spurs.
But Villas-Boas told Sky Sports: “He [Cahill] is a fantastic player – a central defender of high qualities. He had a fantastic year last season. But he is not a player that we are considering.”
And on the issue of Modric, the Portuguese added: “We have [Michael] Essien returning and I think we have left that one for sure.”
