Drew Spence scored twice as Chelsea Ladies thumped Bristol Academy Ladies 4-0 to go top of the Women’s Super League.
The Blues totally dominated from the outset, cruising to a 3-0 half-time lead thanks to goals from Ji So-Yun, Spence and Gemma Davison.
Numerous opportunities also went begging in a one-sided encounter, but Spence finally added a fourth goal in injury-time.
Davison, scorer of both goals in the opening-day win over Notts County, went close before Ji fired the ball home following Eni Aluko’s cross.
Spence headed the second into the corner of the net from an Ana Borges centre and the third arrived courtesy of Davison, who beat two defenders and scored with a fine strike.
Davison and Spence both had chances to extend the advantage by the break, and Katie Chapman and Borges could easily have netted after the interval.
But the fourth goal eluded Emma Hayes’ side until Spence struck with a low shot to put the seal on a win that sees Chelsea with the only 100% record in the league.
Chelsea Ladies play their first home FA Women’s Super League game of the season against Liverpool on Sunday 19 April at Wheatsheaf Park, Staines Town FC. Kick-off is at 2pm and tickets are currently available priced at £5 for adults and £3 for juniors/seniors.
