Chelsea Ladies make double signing

Chelsea Ladies have signed goalkeeper Becky Spencer and midfielder Jade Bailey.

Spencer, 24, joins following three years with Birmingham City Ladies, having helped them finish second in the Women’s Super League and reach the Women’s Champions League semi-final.

A current England Under-23 international, Bailey, 20, has switched across London from Arsenal Ladies.

She was part of the England squad that reached the European Women’s Under-19 Championship in 2013.

Chelsea Ladies manager Emma Hayes said: “Becky has developed into a top goalkeeper and arrives with Champions League experience and a desire to reach the next level in her career.

“Jade is a player I have known about for some time and for someone who is 20 has fantastic experience, having started for Arsenal for the past two seasons. I want homegrown, English players who want to grow with us.”

The new arrivals join Karen Carney in Hayes’ squad after the England international signed a two-year deal with the club last month.
