Chelsea Ladies suffer semi-final defeat

Chelsea Ladies lost 2-0 to Wolfsburg in the second leg of the Women’s Champions League semi-final and 5-1 on aggregate.

A 3-1 defeat in the home leg had left Emma Hayes’ side facing an uphill task to reach the final and maintain their hopes of completing a treble.

They might have been able to pull it off had they been awarded a penalty when Eniola Aluko appeared to have been brought down by Lena Goessling.

Worse followed for the visitors when Pernille Harder broke the deadlock.

And Ewa Pajor headed in Alexandra Popp’s cross to seal victory for the German team, who will face Lyon in the final after the French side beat Manchester City.

Chelsea, top of Women’s Super League One and three points clear of second-placed City, face Arsenal in the FA Women’s Cup final on Saturday.
