Chelsea Ladies ease to win over Bristol

Unbeaten leaders Chelsea Ladies returned to Women’s Super League action after the mid-season break with a crushing 4-1 win over Bristol Academy at Staines.

England striker Eni Aluko and Sweden goalkeeper Hedvig Lindahl were the only starters from the five Blues players who were on World Cup duty in Canada, but Chelsea were comprehensive winners despite missing some of their biggest stars.

Gilly Flaherty’s close-range strike and a wonderful individual effort by Gemma Davison – her sixth goal this season – put the home side in control.

Bristol fought back after the break, with Lindahl making a couple of fine saves before Jade Boho Sayo did pull a goal back.

However Ji So-Yun came off the bench to score from the spot to make it 3-1.

And with Chelsea on top, Millie Farrow’s shot sealed a fifth victory in seven league matches for the title favourites.
