Yennaris earns Brentford point at Ipswich
Ipswich 1 Brentford 1
Nico Yennaris’ first-half equaliser ensured Brentford came from behind to draw, and they were unlucky not to win the game.
After abject defending allowed Emyr Huws to control with his chest and volley home from close range, Yennaris finished off a fine move for his fifth goal of the season.
The Bees bossed the second half and went close on a number of occasions through Sergi Canos, without whom they struggled to created chances after he was taken off 20 minutes from time.
Canos was a menace from the get-go, darting onto a diagonal, cross-field pass in the first minute, cutting inside his man and shooting just wide of the near post via a deflection.
Brentford seemed comfortable and in control for 26 minutes, but were too relaxed at the back when Tom Lawrence crossed firmly to Huws, who was allowed time and space to control and pick out the near corner.
The Bees had the equaliser on the stroke of half-time when Romaine Sawyers, who had gone close with a deflected effort on 35 minutes, spotted Yennaris’ dash into the box and set him up with a sublime through ball.
With five away wins under their belt, including a recent one at promotion-chasing Sheffield Wednesday, Brentford grew more dominant as the second half wore on and Canos should have found a winner.
On 54 minutes he robbed possession high up the pitch, beat his marker again and had a shot deflected wide, and on shortly afterwards smacked another just over the bar from distance.
And moments before he was replaced by Florian Jozefzoon, Canos broke into the box and fired in a low shot that Ipswich keeper Bartosz Balkowski parried onto the goal-line before it was hacked away by defender Myles Kenlock.
