Brentford 2 Notts County 1
Bradley Wright-Phillips scored his first goal for Brentford as they made it three league wins in a row and stayed in the hunt for automatic promotion.
The on-loan Charlton striker fired home on 70 minutes after Toumani Diagouraga’s first goal of the season gave the home side a half-time lead.
Former Blackburn midfielder Alan Judge pulled a goal back shortly after Brentford’s second when Simon Moore parried Jamal Campbell-Ryce’s penalty into his path.
Wright-Phillips looked sharp right from the kick-off and hit the post as early as the fourth minute.
Diagouraga then gave Brentford a deserved lead when he fired through a host of bodies from the edge of the box and underneath the hands of keeper Bartosz Bialkowski, who was substituted at half-time.
There was little his replacement Kevin Pilkington could do to stop Wright-Phillips’ cool finish after the forward was put through by Tom Adeyemi.
Substitute Adam Forshaw committed the foul on Judge that gave County a penalty – and Judge was first to the rebound after Moore had saved Campbell-Ryce’s kick low down to his left.
The result moves Brentford back up to third in the table – only two points behind leaders Doncaster.
