Frank hails Maupay after Bees draw

Thomas Frank hailed his top scorer Neal Maupay for another first-class finish that ensured Brentford returned from Bristol City with a point.

The 22- year-old Frenchman hit his 15th of the season with a clinical strike, having also scored the winner against Bolton on Saturday.

“Look at him. What a player,” said the Brentford boss.

“Against Bolton on Saturday, he put away a wonderful half-volley into the top corner with his left foot. Now, another volley in the top corner, bang. He’s on fire.

“He’s not only a goalscorer. He’s young with great potential. He’s really driven. He’s really important for us. He was a big threat today.”

Frank said it was only a lack of confidence that prevented his side from pushing on for all three points in the closing stages of the 1-1 Boxing Day draw, but that he was very pleased overall.

“I think we deserved to win,” he said. “I think we had better opportunities throughout the game and I’m really pleased the way we handled it.

“Everybody knows we’ve been on a bad run so [it was good] how we handled it after going a goal down – still dominating, still pressing high, still creating good opportunities.

“I’m happy that we could build some momentum. I’m pleased with points two games in a row, and two solid performances, where I could see we looked strong, and now we need to continue building on that.

“If we play like that, I am 100 per cent sure we can win away soon. Overall you can see what we are capable of. A repeat of that performance, with a little more luck, then we get three points at Birmingham on Saturday.”
