‘We made Brighton look average’ – Smith
Brentford boss Dean Smith claimed his side made promotion-chasing Brighton look “average” in the goalless draw at Griffin Park.
The Bees were denied all three points by several fine stops by the Seagulls’ former Fulham keeper David Stockdale.
And although they couldn’t find a breakthrough, Smith was delighted with the way his team played against a Brighton side who hadn’t lost this season until last weekend.
He said: “I thought our performance was excellent.
“Their goalkeeper’s made some really good saves at the end and there was a couple of penalty shouts as well.
“The intensity we played at and the quality on the ball in blustery conditions was very good.
“I’ve seen Brighton a lot this season – they’re a very good team and I thought we made them look average.”
Smith also revealed full-back Maxime Colin had to sit out the game with a tightness in his groin.
