Warburton says Bees can make play-offs
A defiant Mark Warburton has refused to write off Brentford’s play-off hopes despite failing to win for a fifth consecutive Championship game.
Defender James Tarkowski’s late error cost the Bees crucial points in a 2-2 draw against Bolton, which left them three points short of the top six with two games left.
Manager Warburton insisted he did not blame Tarkowski for the mistake and hopes maximum points from the remaining fixtures will see them remain in the promotion mix.
The Bees boss said: “It’s disappointing that the perception is that we won’t make the top six now.
“But it’s only changed the landscape slightly. We have to go and win at Reading, win here against Wigan and get 78 points.
“If anyone said at the start of the season 78 points wouldn’t get you in the play-offs you’d be laughed at. It would be an excellent figure to boast.
“There’s more twists and turns to come and it will come down to the final game. We have to concentrate on two more good performances.
“We weren’t at our best today. We lacked quality, conceded a sloppy equaliser and then paid price for poor pass at the end.
“It’s a mistake, but you can’t ask young players to play every game and not make mistakes. Perfection doesn’t exist.”
