Vibe’s goal gives Bees victory at Reading
Reading 0 Brentford 1
A Lasse Vibe goal was enough to give Brentford victory at the Madejski Stadium.
Vibe enjoyed several chances throughout, eventually putting them ahead with a quarter of an hour remaining. Both the Dane and Kamohelo Mokotjo came close to doubling the lead in the closing stages as the Bees made it five wins from six in the league.
The closest relegation-threatened Reading came was a Liam Kelly free-kick which grazed the crossbar.
Florian Jozefzoon was heavily involved in the opening stages, with a cross from the right met at close range by Vibe, whose shot was blocked by Vito Mannone.
Daniel Bentley then made a good low save at his near post to cut out a cross from Jon Dadi Bodvarsson.
Just before the break Vibe’s soft claims for a penalty after a tussle in the box were waved away.
And Jozefzoon had a great chance to give Brentford the lead after the restart, seeing his shot from a Vibe cross cleared off the line.
Romaine Sawyers also fired wide of the right-hand post as the Bees looked to make the breakthrough.
Reading nearly broke the deadlock with Kelly’s free-kick, but it was a day of few chances for the Royals.
Before getting the decisive goal Vibe couldn’t capitalise on a couple of chances, first firing wide of the post then seeing his early volley from wide on the right sail over.
In the closing stages both keepers were called into action, with Bentley doing well to block Mo Barrow’s shot, while Mannone denied both Vibe and Mokotjo as the Bees looked to wrap things up in style.
