Two for Vibe as Bees move towards safety
Brentford 3 Bolton 1
Lasse Vibe scored twice as Brentford pulled comfortably clear of the relegation zone with another resounding win.
Nico Yennaris scored the Bees’ other goal in a first-half blitzing of the Championship’s bottom side, who pulled a goal back in the second half courtesy of Zach Clough’s penalty.
Yennaris opened the scoring on 17 minutes with his second goal in as many matches.
The former Arsenal youngster, who scored his first Brentford goal in Saturday’s 3-0 win at Nottingham Forest, fired in from close range after Alan Judge’s pull-back had been scuffed towards him by Ryan Woods.
Striker Vibe, who also netted at the weekend, then scored twice before half-time to effectively kill the game.
The Dane followed up his own cross from the right, darting into the middle and eventually slotting home after Bolton had failed to clear the ball.
And Vibe struck again when he headed in Judge’s right-wing cross nine minutes before the interval.
Brentford eased up and Bolton improved after the break, and Liam Trotter missed a good chance when he fired wide after Alan McCormack had lost possession.
McCormack then gave away a penalty by tripping Kaiyne Wollery, and Clough netted from the spot.
And Clough was denied an injury-time goal when Yoann Barbet somehow managed to back-heel the ball off the line.
Following an alarming recent slump, back-to-back wins have left Brentford virtually safe from relegation, in 14th place with 49 points.
