Forshaw gives Bees dramatic victory
Tranmere 3 Brentford 4
Adam Forshaw scored a stoppage-time penalty as Brentford returned to winning ways in dramatic fashion.
The midfielder converted the spot-kick right at the death after Tranmere defender Adam Dugdale had handled the ball inside the area.
The game looked destined for a draw when Tranmere youngster Cole Stockton slotted home an equaliser with the game already in added time.
Two goals from striker Clayton Donaldson and one from on-loan debutant Martyn Taylor had given Brentford a 3-2 lead but the Bees were made to fight until the end for a first league win in three.
Defender Taylor joined on loan from Sheffield Wednesday this week and made an immediate impact when he pounced on a loose ball from Shaleum Logan’s shot three minutes in.
Donaldson then doubled that lead 10 minutes later when he coolly slotted home after the ball had bounced back off the post.
Richard Lee made his first appearance in goal after almost eight months out with a shoulder injury but there was little he could do as Tranmere pulled a goal back through Chris Atkinson shortly before the interval.
Lee made a string of saves before Dugdale found the net to equalise for Tranmere nine minutes into the second half, but Donaldson regained the lead for Brentford when he headed home Will Grigg’s cross.
Taylor hit the post for the Bees before Stockton’s equaliser preceded the introduction of on-loan Liverpool attacker Joao Carlos Teixeira for his Brentford debut.
But it was up to the established Forshaw to seal the win, and he coolly slotted past keeper Owain Fon Williams.
