Brentford 5 Crewe 1
Farid El Alagui and Clayton Donaldson both scored twice as Brentford thumped Crewe to emphatically record their first league win of the season.
Donaldson began the rout of his old club on 13 minutes and his strike partner El Alagui soon doubled the lead with his first goal for the Bees as they dominated the first half.
Moroccan forward El Alagui thumped in a third just before the break to put the Bees in total control.
Crewe pulled one back early the second half but Harlee Dean’s header and Donaldson’s deflected second added gloss to the scoreline.
Donaldson’s double against his former employees will grab the headlines but the performance of El Alagui caught the eye.
The summer capture from Falkirk looks to be forming a growing understanding with Donaldson and he received a standing ovation after being replaced by Paul Hayes midway through the second half.
By that stage, the damage to Crewe had been done. Donaldson’s neat turn and finish put the Bees ahead before El Alagui’s double – the first after a defensive slip and the second a crisp finish from Shaleum Logan’s cross – had supporters purring.
Crewe reduced the deficit with a virtual carbon copy of the Bees’ third, Mathias Pogba converting Byron Moore’s centre.
But after surviving a late flurry of Crewe activity, Dean headed home from Sam Saunders’ inch-perfect delivery and Donaldson grabbed the fifth when his shot went in via a defender.
