Struggling Brentford are hammered by Norwich

Norwich 5 Brentford

Brentford are down to 18th in the Championship after being thrashed by a Norwich side that had lost their previous five matches.

John Egan scored an own goal at Carrow Road, where former Bees loanee Alex Pritchard was among the Canaries’ goalscorers.

Graham Dorrans, Robbie Brady and Nelson Oliveira also found the net on a dismal day for Dean Smith’s side.

Brentford have now lost four in a row since the derby victory at QPR in October – their only win in their last nine matches.

They were 2-0 down within 15 minutes against Norwich, who went ahead when Brady’s cross was turned into his own net by Egan.

Worse followed for the visitors when a penalty was awarded after Harlee Dean brought down Jacob Murphy.

Keeper Daniel Bentley saved Dorrans’ spot-kick but the Scot was able to bundle in the rebound.

Romaine Sawyers and Scott Hogan then missed chances for Brentford, who conceded again on the hour mark, this time when Brady finished coolly after exchanging passes with Pritchard.

Oliveira was allowed time and space to turn in the box and fire home the fourth, before Pritchard completed the rout by tucking away Murphy’s cross.
