Owls may regret loan deal – Morrison
Clinton Morrison says Sheffield Wednesday may end up regretting their decision to let him join Brentford on loan.
The Republic of Ireland international revealed the Yorkshire club, who are challenging for a top-two finish, allowed the move to happen shortly before last week’s deadline because they did not regard Brentford as a promotion rival.
But Morrison believes the Bees are still in the running for the play-offs, which Wednesday could also be involved in if they fail to go up automatically.
He explained: “The manager wanted me to stay, but I want to play football and don’t want to be sitting on the bench or sitting in the stands.
“As soon as the opportunity came to come here and play football I was never going to turn it down.
“I had other [interested] clubs but Sheffield Wednesday said no and then about a quarter-to-five they said ‘The only club we’ll let you go to is Brentford because they’re not really going to be challenging’.
“Well, that’s what they think, but you never know – if Brentford win eight of their last 10 they could sneak into the play-offs.”
Former Crystal Palace striker Morrison, 32, does not expect to return to Wednesday and has not ruled out a permanent move to Griffin Park.
He joined the Owls last summer on a one-year contract with the option of a further year, but has not managed to establish himself as a first-team regular.
Morrison told West London Sport: “I had another year if I played a certain [amount of games] but I scrapped it, so I’m basically on a free transfer at the end of the season.
“I just wanted to come here and play games and then take it from there. It’s too early at this stage to say what’ll happen.
“I think the manager just wanted some experience because they lost Gary Alexander, who had been doing well.”

Feel sorry for Clinton, he’s always given 100% commitment to Wednesday and has been unlucky with the change of manager. He will be a positive in the dressing room even if he’s not playing. Must admit I’ve completely reversed my opinion of him since he came to Hillsborough. Yes he’s cocky, yes he can look arrogant, but I believe most Wednesday fans have loved to see him on the pitch, encouraging the other players, chasing seemingly lost causes, only to score or create an opportunity for a team mate – very unselfish. Well done Clinton, you’re probably right that you won’t be back to Hillsborough, but we all wish you well.
