Striker Grigg is open to Bees return
Will Grigg is keeping an open mind about returning to Brentford next season, despite the massive relief he has found in his summer loan move to MK Dons.
But he has hinted that he would only be happy to come back if he is allowed to play through the centre – a role denied him last year.
The 23-year-old Northern Ireland striker endured a dispiriting debut season with the Bees following his £325,000 move from Walsall, scoring just four goals in 17 starts.
Grigg has now found his form again, scoring five goals in six starts, including two in the Dons’ 4-0 Capital One Cup win over Manchester United.
“If it works out for both of us, I would still be happy to go back,” Grigg told West London Sport .
“I’m a Brentford player and I’m on loan until the end of the season. I’ve still got 18 months left on my contract, but we’ll just have to see what happens.
“I’ve always played down the middle and last season I was pushed out wide and it doesn’t really suit my game. I was played out of position and I wasn’t playing my best stuff.”
His four goals came in a total of 36 appearances – a stark contrast to the 20 goals in 45 games for the Saddlers before his switch to London.
He added: “It was difficult playing bit parts here and there and you lose your fitness and confidence.
“The gaffer maybe saw that as the only opportunity to put me in and it didn’t really work out.
“What happens at the end of the season, I think you’ll have to ask [Bees boss] Mark Warburton. There hasn’t been any conversation with him since I’ve been with the Dons. I don’t think I’m being watched.
“Obviously last year was hugely disappointing. It’s not what you expect when you get a move. I signed for Brentford and was full of confidence and then things just didn’t happen.
“I think I’ve proved in the nine games I’ve played here [at MK Dons] that I’ll always score goals. Last year was a bit up and down, but now I’m thoroughly enjoying it and loving playing and scoring goals.
“We’ve started really well and I think we’re a nice side to watch, creating plenty of chances and for me personally, I think it’s a good move. My goal ratio has been decent so far.
“The Man United match was obviously a great game and it was nice to get the goals. The main thing, though, is I wanted to play again and score goals and take it from there.”
