Striker El-Alagui scores twice in Bees win

Basingstoke 1 Brentford 5

Summer signing Farid El-Alagui scored two of Brentford’s goals as they coasted to another pre-season win.

Another new arrival, Tony Craig, found the net too and there were also goals from Jonathan Douglas and Clayton Donaldson.

It was Donaldson who created the opener, doing well on the left flank and pulling the ball back for Douglas to fire home.

Craig doubled the lead seven minutes before half-time. Sam Saunders’ low free-kick ran to the defender, whose deflected shot beat former Bees keeper Ashley Bayes.

Striker Donaldson then missed a golden opportunity to make it three, but he atoned early in the second half by nodding in the rebound after Bayes had parried Myles Weston’s shot.

Former QPR man Wes Daly pulled one back for Basingstoke with a penalty after Leon Legge’s handball, before El-Alagui netted after being set up by Saunders and then headed in the fifth from Donaldson’s cross.
