Brentford boss Dean Smith admitted his frustration after a 2-0 defeat at Barnsley ended their play-off hopes.
The Bees started brightly at Oakwell but the home side upset the form book and ensured there will be no top-six finish for Smith’s team despite their excellent performances during the second half of the season.
“The assessment was we were in total control for 15 minutes,” Smith said.
“They wandered into our half and scored a spawny goal with a deflected effort that’s hit the crossbar and gone in.
“You know when your luck is against you and that certainly shows you. I think it gave Barnsley a lift because it was the only time they’d been in our half, I think.
“Our final ball or our decision-making just let us down.”
