Seven more points and Bees go up

Brentford manager Mark Warburton is targeting only seven more points to clinch promotion after their 1-0 win against Crawley took them a step closer to the Championship.

It moved them nine points clear of third-placed Rotherham, with five games of the season remaining, and to within three points of League One leaders Wolves.

Warburton said: “We need to get 94 points to go up. The most Rotherham can get is 93 and our target is always to look at the side closest to us and go one point better.

“Hopefully we can achieve that, but the job is not done. If we beat Swindon at the weekend and get to 90 points then we can smell promotion.”

Midfielder Jonathan Douglas’ second-half header clinched Brentford’s 26th victory of the season, breaking their previous record points tally of 85.

“It was a very good night – we got the goal we wanted and we got three points,” Warburton added.

“It was frustrating at times but we’ll take any goal and any three points at this stage. We want a certain spot in the league and we’re not there yet.”
