Uwe Rosler insisted that Gary Alexander – sorely missed in Brentford’s 2-0 defeat against Sheffield United – will be replaced next week.
The Brentford manager could not hide his unhappiness at the circumstances of his top scorer’s shock move to Crawley, which left the German with only two recognised forwards for Saturday’s loss to the Blades.
And Rosler pledged that a striker would arrive at Griffin Park within days.
He said: “Of course we will go and bring someone in. There will be a replacement in the next few days.
“If I said what I felt about it [Alexander’s move] it would make headlines and I don’t want that. All I will say is that Crawley Town as a football club did not play a good role.”
While Rosler was angered by Alexander’s move, he attached no blame to his players after the setback against promotion-chasing United.
And he defended young goalkeeper Simon Moore, whose scuffed goal-kick presented striker Ched Evans with the second of his two goals.
Rosler said: “When you work with younger players sometimes you have to allow them to make mistakes as long as they learn fast, which I’m sure he will.
“I’m less unhappy than I have been after previous defeats, like against Colchester and Yeovil.
“For long periods we played well and controlled the game. But we lost belief after the second goal and didn’t force it enough.
“After we made a big mistake out of nothing, Sheffield United sat deep – they didn’t want to leave any space in behind Clayton Donaldson.
“We needed physicality up front in that situation and you can’t blame the players for that. We can only use what’s at our disposal.”
