Rosler hails Bees prospect Reeves
Brentford boss Uwe Rosler says exciting youngster Jake Reeves is now “a big option” for a first-team place.
Reeves has caught the eye with some impressive pre-season performances and was outstanding in Friday’s 1-0 win against Stoke.
The display enhanced his growing reputation and left Rosler in no doubt that the 18-year-old is ready for senior football.
Rosler said: “It was great to see a young player cope with the physical demands of the game against a Premier League side. He’s now a big option for us.
“I’ve seen him in training and spoke to our academy coaches, and knew he could handle the occasion. He showed no nerves and tried to play. It was refreshing.”
Reeves’ emergence is particularly timely for the Bees in light of news that fellow midfielder Toumani Diagouraga looks set for a spell on the sidlelines with the knee injury he picked up in the recent friendly against Hampton & Richmond.
An initial scan has revealed Diagouraga suffered some ligament damage, and further tests will determine how long he will be out of action for.
Meanwhile, Bees winger Sam Saunders is convinced promotion is a realistic target under Rosler this season.
“We’re going for promotion. Why not? I don’t see why we can’t go for it,” Saunders declared.
He added: “The gaffer wants us to play a high-intensity game and has got us playing good football at a high tempo.
“It’s been really enjoyable during pre-season – lots of knocking the ball around. I’m enjoying it and also feel that in the last few months I’ve rejuvenated my career.”
