Rosler frustrated despite Brentford win

Uwe Rosler criticised both his team and referee Lee Collins after Brentford’s 2-1 win at Crawley.

The Bees boss was unhappy with his players for taking it easy when playing against 10 men – and also turned his ire on Collins for dismissing Adam Forshaw after an alleged dive.

Crawley played a man short from the first 50 seconds after a sensational start which saw defender Mark Connolly dismissed for bringing down Clayton Donaldson, who missed the resulting penalty.

Sam Saunders and Donaldson put the Bees 2-0 up after half an hour – but the visitors let Crawley back into the game in the second half.

Donaldson missed a penalty before scoring.

Rosler said: “Overall I’m very disappointed with the performance. We have to look beyond the result.

“We took it too lightly when we had one man more. We stopped working. Our players thought [at 2-0] it was enough.

“In the end, all credit to Crawley – they gave it everything. I was disappointed with how we used the extra man and lots of other mistakes we made out there.”

The German added: “I don’t understand why Clayton took the penalty – he has missed already this season.

“Our normal penalty takers Harry Forrester and Marcello Trotta weren’t on the field and I should’ve overruled that decision.”

Rosler also defended Forshaw, insisting the midfielder had been tripped, but admitted Harlee Dean could have seen red, rather than just the yellow card he received, after a flare-up.

On Forshaw, Rosler said: “I think the referee wanted to even it out. I saw it on a DVD and it looks like an outstretched leg, definitely not a dive.

“The referee didn’t have the best day. We were lucky to still have Harlee Dean on the field as that could’ve been a red card.

“The best thing for us is to be happy with the three points and move on.”
