Rosler confirmed as new Wigan boss
Uwe Rosler has been confirmed as the new manager of Wigan.
The 45-year-old German has left Brentford, where he was appointed as boss in 2011, after a compensation package was agreed.
Assistant manager Alan Kernaghan and first-team coach Peter Farrell, supported by sporting director Mark Warburton, were placed in charge for the Bees’ FA Cup second-round match against Carlisle after Rosler’s departure was rubber-stamped.
West London Sport revealed on Thursday afternoon that Brentford had received an approach from the Latics.
Former Manchester City striker Rosler, whose family home is in the North West, succeeds Owen Coyle, who left the Championship club this week.
News of Wigan’s approach came hours before Brentford received the green light from Hounslow Council to build a 20,000-capacity stadium at Lionel Road.
Rosler almost led them to promotion last season, when they lost out to Doncaster on the final day and were then beaten by Yeovil in the League One play-off final.
After a shaky spell this term, Brentford are fourth in the table and unbeaten in nine matches.
